Makassar, April 23, 2025 — UIN Alauddin Makassar had the honor of welcoming a delegation from the Embassy of the Netherlands on Tuesday, April 23, 2025. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Development Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Amri, Lc., M.Ag.

The Dutch delegation consisted of two representatives: Mr. Willem Adriaan Cornelis Palm, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Jakarta and also as the Head of Economic Affairs of the Dutch Embassy along with Ms. Indy Kateriamalia, Senior Economic Affairs Officer. The meeting focused on exploring strategic partnerships between the Netherlands and UIN Alauddin Makassar, particularly in the fields of education and academic development.

The discussion emphasized the importance of building mutual connections and expanding beneficial networks. Key points included institutional recognition, subject-based academic exchanges, and the development of a new generation of academics.

One of the noteworthy topics addressed was the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. The delegation discussed current challenges in ensuring the authenticity of student writing in the digital age—particularly how to verify whether academic papers are genuinely written by students themselves or generated with the help of AI tools. This is seen as a crucial issue in maintaining academic integrity.

The meeting was also attended by key university officials, including the Head of Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation Bureau; the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business; the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; the Head of the International Office; and the Head of the Cooperation Division. Their presence reflected the university’s strong commitment to international engagement across various disciplines.

As a follow-up to this visit, Mr. Adriaan Palm is scheduled to deliver a guest lecture at UIN Alauddin Makassar in June 2025. His upcoming visit is anticipated to further strengthen academic exchange and provide valuable insights for students and faculty, particularly in the areas of international relations and global cooperation.

This visit marked an important step toward fostering collaborative efforts that will strengthen UIN Alauddin Makassar’s presence in global academic networks and provide tangible benefits for its academic community.
