International Office of UIN Alauddin Makassar
The International Office (IO) of UIN Alauddin Makassar is a dedicated university unit responsible for coordinating, developing, and facilitating various international programs and partnerships. Established in 2011 under the leadership of Rector Prof. Dr. H. A. Qadir Gassing, HT., MS., the International Office was established as part of the university’s efforts to respond to a Ministry of Religious Affairs program encouraging Islamic higher education institutions to increase the enrollment of international students.
In its early years, the International Office was primarily established to support the university leadership in managing international affairs, particularly the admission and support of international students, as well as the coordination of international visiting lecturers and academics who came to UIN Alauddin Makassar to teach or conduct research. The Office also played an important role in supporting and facilitating the university’s international partnerships, both by facilitating international engagement at UIN Alauddin Makassar and by supporting the involvement of UIN Alauddin Makassar’s academic community in activities abroad. As the university’s internationalization needs and policies have evolved, the role of the International Office has expanded to include strengthening global partnerships, promoting academic mobility, and providing international services for students, academics, administrative staff, and institutional partners.
Since its establishment, the International Office has been led by Andi Muhammad Ali Amiruddin, S.Ag., M.A. (2011–2015), Prof. Dr. H. Mustari Mustafa, M.Pd. (2015–2019), Dr. Muhaimin, M.Th.I. (2019–2023), and Dr. Serliah Nur, S.Pd., M.Hum., M.Ed. (September 2023–present).
In line with the vision of UIN Alauddin Makassar to become a globally recognized Islamic higher education institution, the International Office is committed to expanding and strengthening the university’s international network with universities, government institutions, diplomatic missions, international organizations, and other institutions around the world. These partnerships are realized through a wide range of academic and non-academic activities that support education, research, community engagement, academic mobility, and cultural exchange.
The International Office facilitates various forms of international collaboration, including student exchanges, faculty and staff mobility, collaborative research, international conferences, public lectures, short courses, institutional benchmarking, internship programs, and other academic and professional opportunities at the global level. The International Office also serves as an information, coordination, and support center for members of the university community seeking to participate in international programs. Its responsibilities include facilitating international partnerships and institutional agreements; supporting student, faculty, and staff mobility programs; coordinating international visits and delegations; providing information on scholarships and international opportunities; supporting international research and academic activities; and facilitating services for international students and academics.
In addition, the International Office provides assistance and support to international students, academics, visitors, and institutional partners throughout their activities at UIN Alauddin Makassar. Through these services, the Office contributes to creating an inclusive, welcoming, and globally oriented academic environment.
Entering 2026, the International Office continues to strengthen the global network of UIN Alauddin Makassar through inter-university collaboration, institutional benchmarking, and various international academic activities. These efforts include hosting professional visits and benchmarking programs from other higher education institutions, such as IAIN Manado, as well as organizing public lectures on global perspectives in collaboration with international diplomatic institutions, including the Consulate General of Australia. Through stronger international partnerships, improved service quality, and the development of strategic global initiatives, the International Office of UIN Alauddin Makassar continues to serve as a bridge between the university and the international academic community while supporting the university’s sustainable internationalization efforts.
