Makassar, November 18th, 2025 — Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar successfully held an international seminar entitled “Towards a Two-State Solution: Peran Kunci Presiden Prabowo Subianto dalam Mewujudkan Perdamaian di Gaza” at the University Auditorium on Monday, November 17th, 2025. The event was attended by international students studying in Makassar, including those from Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar, Bosowa University, and Hasanuddin University.
The seminar was officially opened by the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., who emphasized Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to global peace, humanitarian diplomacy, and its longstanding support for Palestine.
In his opening remarks, Prof. H. Hamdan Juhannis, M.A., Ph.D., Rector of Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar, highlighted the historical significance of this program. He stated that this event was the first international seminar in Indonesia to specifically discuss global war and peace, marking a milestone in the country’s academic diplomacy. He also mentioned that this series of seminars would continue at other universities:
“Seminar ini, murni digagas oleh bapak Mentri Agama Indonesia. Ini adalah seminar internasional pertama di Indonesia yang membahas perang dan perdamaian global dalam konteks Gaza. Setelah UIN Alauddin Makassar, seri seminar ini akan dilanjutkan ke UIN Sumatra Utara, diikuti adalah UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, dan terakhir Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta”
He added that the seminar reflected Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s increasingly important role in global diplomacy under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.
The seminar featured prominent national and international speakers, including Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., Minister of Religious Affairs, who discussed President Prabowo Subianto’s emerging leadership in the Islamic world, and H. Anis Matta, Lc., Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, who highlighted Indonesia’s growing strategic influence in global politics. Prof. H. Hamdan Juhannis, M.A., Ph.D., Rector of Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar, emphasized the importance of academic diplomacy, while Prof. Robert W. Hefner of Boston University examined President Prabowo’s strategic role in advancing the Two-State Vision. From the Palestinian perspective, Revda Selver Iseric, a journalist and writer, reflected on Indonesia’s continued support for Palestinian independence, complemented by insights from Dr. H. Das’ad Latif, S.Sos., S.Ag., M.Si., Ph.D., who represented the Palestinian community.
The presence of foreign students from various universities enriched the cross-cultural dimension of the seminar and strengthened Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar’s position as a growing international academic center. For the International Office Affairs, this event marked an important milestone in expanding academic diplomacy and developing a globally responsive academic environment.
This seminar reaffirmed Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar’s commitment to promoting global awareness, supporting peace advocacy, and encouraging international academic collaboration — especially in fields related to global politics, peace studies, and humanitarian diplomacy.
