Gowa, November 6, 2026 – Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Alauddin Makassar successfully held the 3rd International Cultural Day (ICD) 2026 on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Carrying the theme “Connecting Cultures, Sharing Stories, and Building Bridges for a More Inclusive and Connected World,” this year’s event brought together approximately 130 participants from different academic backgrounds and nationalities to celebrate cultural diversity, share traditions, and experience the richness of cultures from different parts of the world.
The event involved students from several departments at UIN Alauddin Makassar, including the English Education Department, the English Literature Department, and the International Relations Department. It also welcomed international students from other universities, including Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), Bosowa University (UNIBOS), and Muhammadiyah University of Makassar (UNISMUH). These international students came from six different countries: Thailand, Bangladesh, Timor-Leste, Nigeria, Pakistan, Syria, and Sudan. Their participation brought together individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds, making the event a meaningful opportunity for cultural interaction and exchange.
Throughout the event, participants introduced various aspects of their respective cultures through traditional clothing, dances, songs, and local cuisines. This year’s cultural showcase featured eight countries and regions: Indonesia, Texas (United States), South Korea, Mexico, Greece, Sudan, Thailand, and the Netherlands. Each group presented the distinctive characteristics of its culture, allowing visitors to explore different traditions and cultural expressions.

The cultural performances and exhibitions received an enthusiastic response from the audience. Visitors showed great interest in the various presentations, particularly the traditional dances, musical performances, and displays of cultural attire. The atmosphere became even more lively as participants introduced their traditional foods, giving visitors the opportunity to discover different culinary traditions. The audience’s excitement and active engagement throughout the event reflected the growing interest in cultural exchange and the opportunity to experience cultures beyond their own.
The event also received appreciation from the university’s leadership. Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Amri, Lc., M.Ag., Vice Rector IV of UIN Alauddin Makassar, expressed his appreciation for the continued development of International Cultural Day.

“International Cultural Day has become more lively and impressive with each passing year. I would also like to express my gratitude to the International Office for organizing this event, as it brings together different cultures and international students. I hope that in the future, ICD can be held in other locations outside the university, such as Toraja, so that international students can also experience the cultural richness of other regions in Indonesia,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Dr. Serliah Nur, M.Hum., M.Ed., Head of the International Office at UIN Alauddin Makassar, shared her hopes for the future development of the International Office and its international initiatives.

“I hope that the International Office will continue to grow and create more opportunities for collaboration and international experiences for all students,” she said.
Beyond its cultural performances and exhibitions, the 3rd International Cultural Day served as a platform for cultural exchange, interaction, and mutual understanding. It allowed students to share their stories, appreciate different traditions, and build connections that extend beyond geographical and cultural boundaries.
Through this event, UIN Alauddin Makassar continues to provide opportunities for students to engage with the international community and develop a broader understanding of the world. In line with this year’s theme, the celebration highlighted how sharing cultures and experiences can bring people closer together, encourage inclusivity, and create lasting connections across nations.
The enthusiasm shown by both participants and visitors made the 3rd International Cultural Day a memorable celebration. More than just a cultural exhibition, the event served as a reminder that diversity is something to be experienced, understood, and celebrated together. It is through these shared experiences that meaningful connections can be built toward a more inclusive and connected world.
