Malé, Maldives – UIN Alauddin Makassar continues to solidify its international presence with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM). The formal agreement, signed on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at IUM’s campus, marks a significant step in expanding educational cooperation between the two Islamic universities.
The MoU was signed by UIN Alauddin’s Rector, Prof. Hamdan Juhannis, and IUM’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ali Zahir. The ceremony, held at the Raja Fahd Building in Violet Magu, Male’, was also attended by prominent figures from UIN Alauddin, including the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Dr. Abd Rauf Muhammad Amin, and the Head of the AUPK Bureau, Suleman Awad.
Prof. Hamdan emphasized the importance of the partnership in enhancing UIN Alauddin’s standing on the international stage. “This MoU represents a strategic step in strengthening UIN Alauddin’s position globally. We are optimistic that this collaboration will yield significant benefits for both institutions,” said Prof. Hamdan.
He further highlighted the broader impact of the collaboration, not just for the universities but for both Indonesia and the Maldives. “This partnership will also strengthen bilateral relations between our countries and contribute to the development of high-quality human resources,” he added.
The MoU focuses on the “Tri Dharma of Higher Education,” which encompasses education, research, and community service. The collaboration is expected to open up opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and community development programs in both countries.
IUM’s Vice Chancellor, Dr. Ali Zahir, also expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, noting the potential benefits for IUM students. “This collaboration with UIN Alauddin Makassar will enrich the academic experiences of our students and help us achieve our strategic goals in advancing higher education in the Maldives,” said Dr. Zahir.
The agreement is a landmark achievement for both institutions, reflecting their shared commitment to fostering academic excellence and contributing to the development of global Islamic education.
