Makassar, December 15, 2025 – The International Office of Alauddin State Islamic University (UIN) Makassar took part in the organization of the 3rd International Conference on Social and Islamic Studies (ICOSIS) 2025, which was held on Monday, December 15, 2025. The international conference was conducted in a hybrid format, with onsite sessions at Mercure Hotel and Convention Makassar and online sessions through a virtual platform.

The conference, themed “Epistemology, Ecotheology, and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping Sustainable Civilization from an Islamic Perspective,” served as a global academic forum that brought together academics, researchers, practitioners, and students from various institutions to discuss contemporary civilizational challenges from the perspectives of social sciences and Islamic studies.

The Head of the International Office of UIN Alauddin Makassar, along with several international students, attended the conference activities both onsite and online. The presence of international students reflected the university’s commitment to creating an inclusive academic environment and strengthening global academic engagement.

The Chair of ICOSIS 2025, Dr. Siti Raodah, SKM., M.Kes., reported that the third ICOSIS conference received a very positive response, with a total of 138 participants joining both onsite and online sessions. She stated that ICOSIS was designed as an academic platform to strengthen research networks, encourage the exchange of critical ideas, and contribute to knowledge development and community empowerment.

On behalf of the Rector of UIN Alauddin Makassar, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Kamaluddin Abunawas, M.Ag., expressed appreciation for the Master’s Program’s consistency in maintaining academic traditions through international seminars. He noted that the Master’s Program represented the highest level of academic activity at the university and that academic programs such as international seminars, academic discussions, and research forums had to continue to be supported. He also emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence literacy so that technology could be used critically and responsibly without compromising academic integrity.

International students of UIN Alauddin Makassar actively participated as attendees and observers throughout the conference. Their involvement not only enriched the multicultural academic atmosphere but also created opportunities for cross-cultural academic interaction and expanded global academic networks. Through ICOSIS 2025, international students gained a deeper understanding of contemporary Islamic studies, interdisciplinary research, and global academic discussions.

The participation of international students in ICOSIS 2025 highlighted the role of the International Office in promoting global engagement and supporting UIN Alauddin Makassar’s vision as an inclusive, competitive, and internationally oriented Islamic university. With the successful implementation of ICOSIS 2025, UIN Alauddin Makassar reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening academic excellence, expanding international collaboration, and contributing Islamic scholarship to address social, ecological, and technological challenges toward a sustainable global civilization.
