The International Office of UIN Alauddin Makassar Promotes Cross-Cultural Understanding through International Cultural Day

Makassar, November 03ʳᵈ, 2025 — The International Office of Alauddin State Islamic University Makassar successfully held International Cultural Day on Monday in the Senate Hall, 4ᵗʰ Floor of the Rectorate Building, as part of the University’s 60ᵗʰ Anniversary (Dies Natalis) celebration under the grand theme “Strengthening the Role of University for Global Civilization.

The event was officially opened by the Head of the International Office, Dr. Serliah Nur, M.Hum., M.Ed., who also delivered a welcoming speech to mark the beginning of the program. In her address, she expressed her appreciation for the students’ enthusiasm and creativity in bringing cultural learning to life through collaboration and performance.

“It is truly a great pleasure for me to welcome all of you to this wonderful event — International Cultural Day. I am very proud to see this event come to life through your creativity and teamwork. For the International Students, your presence adds a genuine sense of internationalism to this celebration. It reminds us that learning about culture is not just about studying differences — it is about building bridges, promoting empathy, and celebrating the richness of human diversity” she said.

The celebration was organized by students from English Education students and International Students, representing various countries — Indonesia, Palestine, Egypt, Japan, Italy, Sudan, Thailand and Saudi Arabia. Each group presented a creative cultural performance highlighting traditional costumes, food, art, and performances that reflected the heritage of the country they represented.

Throughout the event, students showcased performances, culinary presentations, and cultural displays that captured the essence of global diversity. The interactive atmosphere encouraged students to communicate, collaborate, and appreciate cultural differences through mutual respect and creativity.

One of the English Education students —Muh. Iqra Maulana S— shared that the experience taught his valuable lessons about cooperation and cultural appreciation.

“I learned a lot about teamwork, helping each other, and appreciating differences. I’m also very happy to meet international friends from Sudan and Thailand — it made me realize how wide and wonderful this world”

Meanwhile, one of the international students from Thailand — Aisoh— participating in the event, expressed her excitement at being part of the celebration.

“I really enjoyed joining this event. It was amazing to see everyone’s culture and traditions. This kind of program makes me feel welcomed and connected — like we are one big family despite coming from different countries”

The International Cultural Day not only became a moment of joy and creativity but also reflected The International Office of UIN Alauddin Makassar ongoing commitment to promoting global-minded education, intercultural competence, and international collaboration among its students, in line with the university’s vision of contributing to the advancement of a global civilization.
