Makassar, December 13, 2024 – The International Office (IO) of UIN Alauddin Makassar successfully conducted a series of workshops designed to support international students in their academic and cultural adaptation. These activities, which included a workshop on academic writing held on several days, aimed to enhance students’ skills and foster cross-cultural connections.
The first workshop on academic writing was led by Dr. Serliah Nur, the Head of the International Office. During this session, international students were provided with comprehensive guidance on essential academic writing techniques. The program also included lessons on the practical use of the Indonesian language, helping students better adapt to academic standards in Indonesia.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Serliah expressed her hope that the program would address the challenges international students face in adapting to local academic practices. The workshop was well-received, with students praising its practical insights and interactive approach. Muzammil, a student from Sudan, shared his thoughts:
“The activity organized by the International Office was a great success. It provided valuable insights and fostered collaboration among participants. I appreciate the efforts of Ma’am Sherli in ensuring the smooth execution of the event, which truly enhanced the overall experience.”
In the next day, this program featured Dr. Serliah Nur along with Ilham Alimuddin, S.T., M.Gis, Ph.D., as speakers. The workshop focused on advanced techniques in scientific writing, equipping students with tools to produce high-quality academic papers.
Workshop ended by each participants presented their research plan and academic expectation during their courses in UIN Alauddin.
Through these workshops, the International Office of UIN Alauddin Makassar reaffirms its commitment to supporting international students by offering programs that promote academic development and cross-cultural understanding. Furthermore, Dr. Serliah expressed hopes that future initiatives, including BIPA (Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers) and other international student programs, will be more extensive and involve a broader range of participants.
These programs are expected to enhance international students’ confidence in completing their academic coursework while fostering meaningful connections within the diverse academic community at UIN Alauddin Makassar.
