Makassar, October 22, 2024 — UIN Alauddin Makassar marked its 59th Dies Natalis with a vibrant and diverse International Culture Day celebration, organized by the International Office. The event, held at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Educational Science, attended by international students from Sudan, Iraq, and Thailand, along with students from the English Education Department of UIN Alauddin Makassar.

The event was officially opened by Dr. Serliah Nur, M.Hum., M.Ed., the Head of the International Office. In her welcoming speech, Dr. Serliah warmly greeted all the international and local students, expressing her joy at seeing everyone come together for the event. She emphasized that the International Culture Day was organized to provide a platform for international students to learn more about Indonesian culture, while also allowing Indonesian students to gain insight into the cultures of other countries.

“This event is not just about celebrating our differences,” Dr. Serliah said, “but also about learning from each other. We hope that through this event, international students will have a deeper understanding of Indonesian culture, and our students will have the opportunity to explore the richness of foreign cultures.” She added that the event underscores the importance of cultural introduction as a way to foster mutual respect and understanding among students from diverse backgrounds.

The atmosphere became even more exciting when the international and Indonesian students gave presentations about their cultures. They introduced traditional dances, costumes, and food from their home countries. The goal of the presentations was to help everyone learn more about cultural diversity.

One of the international students from Thailand shared their positive experience, saying, “From this cultural exchange event, I learned so much about the traditions, customs, and languages of Indonesia, Iran, and Sudan. I’m very happy to be part of this activity, and I hope such positive events will continue to strengthen the bond between international students and UIN Alauddin Makassar students.”

The audience was highly enthusiastic, actively engaging by asking many questions and responding to the presentations with curiosity. They wanted to know more about the cultural differences and similarities between countries, which sparked lively discussions.

This event highlighted UIN Alauddin Makassar’s commitment to helping students appreciate global cultural diversity.
